This fireside chat recap is from Day 1 of FreightWaves LIVE @HOME.

FIRESIDE CHAT TOPIC: Exploring the future of FreightTech

DETAILS: FreightWaves President George Abernathy and Kendra Phillips discuss Ryder’s partnerships and evolving FreightTech such as autonomy and the Internet of Things.

SPEAKER: Phillips is the chief technology officer and vice president of new products at Ryder System Inc.

BIO: Phillips is responsible for overseeing the evaluation, development and deployment of new technologies and digital products for the supply chain and dedicated transportation solution businesses. Phillips has worked at Ryder for 14 years in a variety of roles, including operations and strategic growth.

“We’re really excited about where we are with RyderShare. RyderShare is our product that digitizes the supply chain. It allows people to see their supply chain, act on their supply chain and actually communicate and collaborate with other partners in their supply chain.”

“I get the autonomous technology — I understand how that’s going to work. But how does it fit into our current networks? Is it another mode? Which I think is the answer, at least in my opinion. And how are shippers or customers going to buy that mode?”

“The other opportunity I see is around the Internet of Things. There’s just so much data out there, and the question is how do we harness it? How do we capture it all and how do we drive value out of it? That’s still the challenge. It’s easy to absorb the data, to bring it in-house, create a data warehouse or data mart, but then how do you actually harness it to bring value?”
