South Korean shipping line HMM was targeted in a cyberattack that caused outages to its email systems, the company said Tuesday.
HMM said the attack, detected on Saturday, appeared limited to the company’s Outlook email system. The company said the attack did not impact other operations, including booking.
As of Monday, the attack was still affecting systems globally except for the Americas and Europe.
“The e-mail system is gradually resuming, and our IT planning team, consisting of IT experts, is continuing the investigation to prevent further security accidents,” the company said in a statement. “HMM will conduct enhanced security checks and take protective measures.”
The company did not disclose much about the attack, only calling it a “virus.”
